A fire which was believed to have been started by smoking materials activated a sprinkler system in a flat at Laurence Way, Slough at abot 0900 hrs on New Years Day. Neighbours called the f&rs when the alarm activated.
A spokesman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said two fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus then managed to extinguish the fire in the corner of the lounge diner.
He said: “The sprinkler system did a good job and without it it could have been a different story.”
The man was then left with ambulance crews receive treatment.
Slough, Langley, Windsor and a crew from Reading attended the scene.
