If you think that fires are something that happens to others, you need to think again.   Fires are a lot more common than many people realise, and it doesn’t take a lot for a little one to become something worse.

All it takes is a little inattention on your part when cooking a meal or overloading an extension lead can lead to a fire starting.   If you don’t have a good domestic fire sprinkler system installed then, of course, the risk of serious damage being done to your home or worse harm to your family is greatly increased.

Did You Know?

Throughout the UK during the course of one day, the following occurs:

  • 180 serious fires start in the home
  • Fire brigades are called out to 2,880 fire alarms
  • Every day 44 people get hurt in fires and as a result of these fires 2 people will die

So now you’ve seen this you can see why thinking about getting a good quality residential fire sprinkler system installed is a sound investment.

Why Are Domestic Fire Sprinklers So Effective?

If you install the right kind of domestic fire sprinklers in your home you can prevent any fire from becoming too big.  This is because as soon as the temperature in any room begins to rise above the limit set for such a system it will then be activated.   The water released then smothers the fire before it has the chance to spread any more.

Also, should you be faced with a fire in your home good domestic sprinkler systems will reduce the risk of you being harmed through inhaling smoke.  The water released actually weighs down the larger smoke particles meaning the smoke won’t be as thick and it will make it much easier for you to breathe.

What Type Of Domestic Sprinkler Systems Is Right For You?

You will find that there are several different kinds of domestic sprinkler systems you can now buy for your home.  Each of which has been designed for use during specific situations.  But the three most common kinds of residential fire sprinklers used today are as follows:

Wet Pipe

With these residential fire sprinkler systems, water is flowing through the pipes constantly that are connected to sprinkler heads.  They provide water quickly and effectively to the area where the fire has appeared.  However, if you live in a part of the UK where temperatures often go below freezing then this type of system isn’t suitable for you.  If temperatures do drop below freezing the risk of the water inside the pipes becoming frozen is greater.  This, in turn, could lead to the pipes then bursting.

Dry Pipe

This type of domesticsprinkler system involves the pipes being filled with compressed air that is then connected to the main water or a storage tank.  The storage tank will need to be fitted with a valve that prevents water from getting into the pipes.   As soon as the system is activated the pressure inside the pipes drops and this allows water to flow through them and to the sprinkler heads.   Of course, such a domestic sprinkler system can be used in homes where the temperature may drop below freezing.   But you need to be aware that this type of system requires a lot more maintenance.

Alternate

You have the choice of being able to fill this type of domestic fire sprinkler system with water when the weather is warm, then it can be drained and filled with compressed air during the colder months.   This type of system is actually perfect for parts of the UK where the climate can be very varied.

Now you know the kinds of domestic sprinkler systems you can install in your home there are some other factors that you need to consider to help you decide which one is right for you.

The main things that will need to be considered when it comes to deciding what sort of residential fire sprinkler system to install in your home are as follows:

  • The size of your house
  • Whether you want the system to be concealed or not
  • How much you can afford to spend on a domestic fire sprinkler system?
  • Has the company you’ve chosen obtained the relevant certifications to install such systems?
  • Will the company provide you with a certificate of compliance once the installation has been completed?

Hopefully, the above information will clearly show you why considering having a domestic fire sprinkler system installed is a very worthwhile investment.  If you would like further information about the various types of home sprinkler systems available, then please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us here at Residential Sprinklers on 0800 999 3914 or 0208 864 3914.  Alternatively, you can email us at info@residentialsprinklers.co.uk or by filling out our online enquiry form.  We will then arrange for a member of our team to get in contact with you to discuss your requirements further.
