in October, the FPA/RISCA will be launching a major initiative entitled ‘FPA Safe Futures Campaign’ in a bid to get government to consider the 3 highest priority topics that RISCAuthority Members have established require urgent attention at the next review of Building Regulations.

Whilst we have sought and achieved face-to-face representation on these subjects, the clear lack of government appetite to embrace our views with any significance has led us to the conclusion that a more direct approach is required. To this end we have created polling-cards which will be distributed en-mass with an accompanying manifesto for return by those supporting the initiative to Stephen Williams MP Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Upon receipt, the MP will be duty bound to respond in person to each one and we hope that this will at least see the topics onto the BRAC (Building Regulations Advisory Committee) agenda.

The polling cards will be distributed via a range of media including October’s FRM magazine which will be largely dedicated to the initiative with articles from stakeholders affected by the three issues of:

  1. AFA – A call for the mandation of high integrity fire detection system in all new commercial premises
  2. Sprinklers – A call for the mandation of sprinklers in warehousing over 4,000sq m
  3. MMC – A fresh eyes look at BR in respect of new building methods to include fire ingress and combustible void spread

Via the link below, you will find a brief article reported in a previous FRM edition together with the draft polling card. Whilst very much RISCAuthority derived, on this occasion, with its broader remit, we have felt that FPA is a more appropriate front face for this initiative.
